Skip to contentGetting the right fit is key to ensuring your Primo Pad performs at its best. Here’s how to accurately measure your kennel depending on the type you have:
If you have a traditional black wire crate (the kind commonly found at pet stores or online):
Remove the plastic tray before measuring.
Why remove the tray? We recommend removing the plastic tray so the Primo Pad can sit flush against the edges of the kennel. This not only provides a cleaner and more secure fit but also helps prevent dogs from getting underneath the pad or accessing the corners to start chewing. Trays can also shift around, crack over time, and trap moisture — removing them results in a more stable, hygienic setup for your dog.
Measure the outside dimensions of the kennel — both length and width, from edge to edge.
When you submit your order, we will automatically subtract ½ inch from each dimension to ensure a proper, snug fit inside the kennel frame.
If you’re using a kennel made of aluminum, plastic, or a custom-built crate:
Measure the interior floor space — from wall to wall, along the bottom of the kennel.
If the kennel has rounded edges, bolts, or other obstructions, measure the largest flat area available on the floor. This ensures the pad will lay flat and fit cleanly inside.
We only manufacture pads in rectangular or square shapes. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate rounded, angled, or irregular shapes.
When custom sizes are submitted and approved, we automatically subtract ½ inch from both the length and width to ensure the pad fits properly inside the kennel.
Please double-check your measurements before submitting a custom order. We do not accept returns or exchanges on custom-sized pads.
Measure twice to ensure accuracy.
If your measurements fall between whole numbers, you do not need to round up or down. We can make pads to exact dimensions, including fractions like 1/4″, 1/8″, or even 1/16″. Just be sure to double-check your measurements before submitting.
A snug fit helps prevent chewing, sliding, and bunching of the pad inside the kennel.
If you’re unsure how to measure or want help confirming the correct size, just email us at orders@primopads.com. Feel free to include photos of your kennel — we’ll walk you through it.
